The project OPPSIRK aims to transform the construction industry through innovative production of steel materials by upcycling old ships and oil platforms. By establishing industrial manufacturing, we aim to create bulk products such as sheet piles, beams, plates, and wall modules from decommissioned platforms and ships. This initiative not only seeks to create a new circular industry in Norway and Europe but also to strengthen the maritime sector with new value propositions and growth opportunities.

        Our goal is to provide the construction and maritime sectors with access to credible, commercial, and scalable low-emission building materials. The plan involves establishing innovative circular value chains, demonstrating the potential for cost reduction and minimal energy consumption. We aim to develop new production technologies for an industrial upcycling process for steel.

        The project is unique in Norway and Europe, with the objective of providing access to essential raw materials through influencing governmental practices and regulations. This includes establishing new certification procedures and legislation to support sustainable practices. We also aim to develop innovative models for life cycle analyses, product certification, and a new AI solution for efficient dismantling, benefiting the entire industry.

        Through pilot projects, we plan to prove the viability of the concept and demonstrate that building products made from upcycled steel have a sustainable future. This project marks the beginning of a new era in the construction industry, characterized by responsible resource management and environmental consciousness. The goal is to inspire the industry to embrace sustainable practices and innovative solutions for future construction needs.

Vi skal lage fremtidens byggematerialer i stål ved å oppsirkulere gamle skip og oljeplattformer. Ved å etablere en industriell produksjon av volumvarer i stål; spunt, bjelker, plater og veggmoduler av dekommisjonerte plattformer og skip skaper vi en ny sirkulær industri i Norge og Europa. Prosjektet vil videreutvikle maritim sektor ved å gi dem et nytt verdiforslag og vekstmuligheter utover lavmargin skrapstål, sikre en etisk riktig og miljøvennlig avhending av norske oljeplattformer og skip, og gi byggebransjen og maritime virksomheter en troverdig, kommersiell og skalerbar tilgang til lavutslippsbyggematerialer. Prosjektet vil gå i front ved å etablere nye sirkulære verdikjeder på tvers av bransjer og demonstrere hvordan sirkularitet kan fungere i praksis ved å vise verdiskapingspotensialet, vise redusert energiforbruk og CO2-utslipp, og utvikle nye produksjonsteknologier som kan skaleres til en industriell prosess for oppsirkulering av stål. Det finnes ingen eksisterende oppsirkuleringsindustri i Norge eller Europa. Prosjektet bidrar til å gi Norge og EU tilgang til viktige råmaterialer, påvirker myndighetsutøvelse og regelverk, etablerer nye sertifiseringsrutiner og lovverk, og utvikler nye modeller for LCA, PCR, EPD, sertifisering og en ny AI-løsning for demontering som vil komme alle i bransjen til gode. Prosjektet har i så måte høy innovasjonsgrad og forskningshøyde og vil gi store positive ringvirkninger i samfunnet.
        Vi skal skape metoder og forretningsmodeller som gjør norske verft og stålindustri til et konkurransedyktige alternativ til resirkulering og dekommisjon i Asia. Vi skal masseprodusere byggeprodukter til kommersielle betingelser og med lave co2-utslipp. Vi vil mobilisere hele verdikjeden; redere, finansiering, dekommisjonsaktører, stålindustrien og alle sentrale parter i byggebransjen. Og gjennom pilotprosjekter skal vi bevise at byggeprodukter av oppsirkulert stål har livets rett, at vårt prosjekt er startskuddet for en ny industri.
