Pore pressure prediction from seismic data

Awarded: NOK 1.3 mill.

Results described in the paper "Discrimination between pressure and fluid saturation changes from time lapse seismic data" will be used as a basis for devoloping a method for pressure prediction from one seismic data set only. By using multioffset seismi c data combined with geological knowledge and rock physics the intention is to predict overpressured zones more precisely. A mature North Sea hydrocarbon field will be used as a calibration site as well as a laboratorium for studying and developing methods that are suitable for pressure prediction. The usefulness of acquiring seabed seismic data as an extra tool for pressure prediction will also be evaluated. Rock physics models and geological knowledge of the given basin will also be key elements in the projects. The study can be divided into thr ee parts: First a calibration and research phase where a mature reservoir with several seismic and well observations are used both to develop and calibrate the models. Secondly, a test of the proposed models will be done onshallow pessure anomalies above or close to the given reservoir,or in areas with a known pressure anomaly. Finally, the method should be adapted to an exploration case, and tested in a virgin area.
