KOSK-Katalyse og organisk syntetisk kjemi

A fundamental approach to the understanding of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalysts. TILKNYTTET 154092/431

Awarded: NOK 1.4 mill.

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is an important part of most natural gas conversion process developments. A key element in improved Fischer-Tropsch technology is the development of active catalysts with high wax selectivity. The synthesis is a very complex reac tion involving metal-support interactions and metal-promoter effects and secondary reactions. Mass transfer effects are also important in the case of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Fundamental studies of model catalysts are important in order to understand th e mechanism behind the catalytic performance. The project focuses on the use of standard surface science techniques to study cobalt surfaces including cobalt surfaces influenced by the support material as well as by the promoters. The informations from th e model studies will form a basis for the development of kinetic description ofthe synthesis on supported catalysts at realistic temperatures and pressures.
