Hydrogenation of CO with different CO/H2 ratios and in the presence of olefins. TILKNYTTET 154092/431

Awarded: NOK 1.7 mill.

The short contact time reactor can be designed and optimized for producing synthesis gas by partial oxidation of hydrocarbons. However, in addition to synthesis gas high yields of olefins can also be obtained by partial oxidation of NGL (C2-C4) compounds at very short contact times. The H2/CO ratio in the product depends on the reactant composition and on the conditions, but is typically in the range of 1.-1.8. This mixture of olefins and synthesis gas can have a potential as a feed or as a co-feed in downstream processes for the production of chemicals, polymers and fuels. The project deals with the direct use of the reaction product from the millisecond oxidative dehydrogenation of NGL compounds. The composition of the product gas from the short contact time reactor can to a large extent be varied. It is therefore importan t to be able to predict the effect of different H2/CO ratios and the amount of olefins in the feed on the activity, selectivity and stability of the possible catalyst candidates. The work will also aim at developing a microkinetic model for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis.
