Diversity, Togetherness and a Society in Change

Using an analytical perspective which has a footing in the diversity society, belonging (a structure of attachment), citizenship (in an expanded sense, as a mesh of abilites to have properly recognised voice in the public space), contestation, conflict, a nd a sociology of movement, this project is intended as an attempt to show how different levels of social aggregation can be analytically tied together. Throughout, the project will try to maintain a shared theoretical development, and also explore - as a n integrated feature- the policy implications of the studies. Specific studies will cover women's claimed and accorded belongings, the contestation of the significanse of marriage, diaspora contestations in Europe, radically transnational movements, form s of diasporic consciusness, belonging in 'glocalization' and its relationships to nationality and citizenship, as well as a project about cleaning women. The project attempts to develop a theory-wise 'post-multicultural society' perspective on diversity , othering processes, social inequality.
