PROBE aims to be part of a nationa service network, and will be established in 2002 and expanded in early 2003. A high-throughput MALDITOF-MS/MS-TOF/TOF will be installed 2002 at the Dept. of Pharmacology, thereby benefiting from one of the most sophisti cated MS user environments in the Nordic countries (www.uib.no/people/mfapu/Pages/LOCUS). The Unit will be moved in Jan. 2003 to a dedicated 165m2 space, and be supplemented with two WS-instruments and peripherals for protein separation and sample preparation. the location will be in the new Building for Biological Sciences, close to the Dep t. of Pharmacology. The Unit will provide regular training courses and keep a strong proteomics-related in-house research to better serve the external users. UoB has apponted 4 academic positions to PROBE and granted several PhD studenst and post-docs with proteomics rele vant projects requiring a functioning PROBE. PROBE proposes two professor II positions associated with the Unit to ensure continuous contac with leading international laboratories, and help during user courses and seminars. PROBE will be closely linked with the proposes applied bioinformatics uni (ABU) at UoB to ensure optimal data interpretation.
