Functional genomics of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum

The project seeks to: <h>1. Develop a productive and innovative research group in Norway that efficiently combine the research abilities of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Tromsø with recognized proteomics and structural biology research group s at the University of Tromsø and complementary initiatives in functional genomics in leading research institutions abroad, that include Harvard University and Harvard School of Public Health. <h>2. Actively take advantage of the opportunities made avail able through this cross-diciplinary collaboration to ensure significant contributions to international efforts to understand the biology of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum for development of efficient drug and immunologcal control strategies. <h>3. Utilize the focused collaboration to provide students and researchers at the University of Tromsø with opportunities to interact with, collaborate with, and perform research at state-of-the -art research facilities available, among others, Harvard U niversity and Harvard School of Public Health.
