Enabling Grids for E-science and industry in Europe (EGEE)

Awarded: NOK 0.27 mill.

This acitivity will define and deploy a security architechture aimed at computational grids. Other infrastructures with similar security needs, for example transparent access to roaming wireless services, may also benefit. One problem with computer grid deployment is to be able to provide transparent user access to computer resources located all over the planet, without the need for user accounts, registration and acceptance of individual account regulations. For a large computational grid this would re quire and unmanageable amount of administration. Another, potentially conflicting, security related problem is that of preventing unauthorized access to computer systems. The EU 6th framework EGEE project (Enabling Grids for E-science and industry in Europe) focuses on deployment of a large grid of computing resources throughout Europe. This application is therefore coupled to the EGEE activity in order to strengthen the contributed resources for Parallab. A 4-man team will be established drawing on the combined resources of Parallab and The Selmer Centre for Secure Communications. Parallab and The Selmer Center are both organized as research groups within the Bergen Center for Computational Science.
