KOSK-Katalyse og organisk syntetisk kjemi

8th International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilization (ICCDU-VIII)

Awarded: NOK 99,999

The series of conferences on Carbon Dioxide Utilization are international, multi-disciplinary conferences concerned with finding new ways to use carbon dioxide as a raw material. The conferences are held every two years on a rotating basis between Asia, Europe, and North America. The last European venue was Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1999. The utilization of CO2 is of particular interest to Norway. One current example is the use of CO2 for enhanced oil recovery, which is under demonstration at the Sleipne r field in the North Sea. The topic of CO2 capture and recovery, which is another theme of the conference, is clearly relevant to the development of more economical CO2-free, natural gas-fired power plants, which is essential to meet future energy demand . In addition to this, however, creation of value-added products, with CO2 as a renewable resource, would have economic benefit for all types of gas-fired power plants which include capture and sequestration of CO2. Since CO2 is a kinetically and thermo dynamically stable molecule, a central aspect of nearly all processes involving conversion of CO2 to value-added products is catalysis, making this conference also relevant to the KOSK program.
