Signal Processing for Landmine Detection

Awarded: NOK 2.2 mill.

The project is based on new innovative radar technology which has been developed at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and 3d-Radar AS since 2001. The field-proven radar system has demonstrated unique capabilities for detecting buried obje cts such as cables, pipes etc. For efficient detection of land-mines, the signal quality of the system needs to be further improved in order to fulfill the requirements for humanitarian mine detection. NTNU will play a key role in R&D on advanced signal processing and interpretation algorithms. NTNU will be responsible for the following activities in the project: a) Conduct research and development within the field of signal processing through the PhD projects. b) Participate in field tests using the ra dar equipment developed in collaboration with 3d-Radar AS. c) Analyze radar data and evaluate system performance 3d-Radar activity 3d-Radar will be responsible for the following activities in the project: a) Develop a new radar hardware platform based o n the requirements for landmine detection b) Test and evaluate new signal processing concepts developed through the R&D project c) Perform field tests in collaboration with NTNU
