Transport on a nanoscale; at surfaces and contact lines

Funding is asked to bring together experienced professors and promising young scientists to solve problems related to transport on the nanoscale at surfaces and contact lines. Some selected surfaces between liquid-vapor, solid-vapor and liquid-membrane ph ases, as well as the contact line in the electrode of the fuel cell, shall be studied, using theoretical, computational and experimental methods. We argue that our recent progress and coauthorships in the field make it likely that our effort will give ne w contributions. Research is needed, since very little information exists and neglect of surface transport properties lead to incorrect predictions on the macroscopic level. Five subprojects are defined, four along the lines we already are doing research and one interdisiplinary on biological transport. For our theoretical activities, we ask for travel and subsistence costs. Computer costs must be covered for the simulation work, while experimental costs need be covered for work at the Swiss-Norwegian Bea m Line in Grenoble.
