Designing information measures to promote environmentally sound energy consumption: An interdisciplinary approach

Awarded: NOK 1.9 mill.

In this project we analyze how information could be used effectively as a policy instrument to promote environmentally sound energy consumption in Norway. The project has two work packages, one theoretical and one empirical. In the first work package (WP 1) we integrate perspectives from different disciplines on how behavior can be influenced, and conduct experimental studies on information measures to complement the knowledge that can be drawn from the different theories. The result from this work packag e is an input to the analyses in work package 2 (WP2). In WP2 we analyze how information measures could be designed and used most effectively by looking at both the new information measures introduced through the EU El-Directive and the experiences from the use of information measures directed towards energy consumption in Norway. We use the knowledge brough forward in the different parts of the project to suggest which criteria are important to implement effective information measures, and suggest a met hod to be used to achieve an effective overall information strategy. The study includes analyses of previos experiences with the use of information measures with respect to energy consumption, experimental studies and focus group studies. The approach wi ll be interdisciplinary throughout the project.
