The main contribution of the project is to develop knowledge through experimentation on how to develop multimedia streaming services that manage their own adaptation and configuration. This knowledge will help to define a new generation of computing stand ards that supports increasing demands for delivering personalized context-sensitive multimedia streaming services to heterogeneous and possibly mobile computing devices over networks with dynamically varying quality characteristics. Furthermore the projec t will develop and test the following new solutions:
- A middleware-based solution framework for self-adaptable multimedia streaming services. This solution framework will allow a multimedia service to be specified by its desired behavior. The service is then planned, instantiated and maintained by the middleware.
- Fundamental insight into the design and reuse of QoS-sensitive and adaptive multimedia service and distribution components in a comprehensive middleware framework
- Scalable and efficient deci sion making patterns and algorithms for QoS and other non-functional property constraint satisfaction and optimization for the domain of multimedia streaming service delivery
- Domain-specific insights into approaches for improved resource utilization in media streaming systems, and the generation of algorithms that make these insights available for decision making in a general context
