Establishing a project on comparative studies of salmon lice dispersal in different geographical areas (Canada, Scotland and Norway)

Awarded: NOK 0.15 mill.

Increased levels of farmed salmonid hosts for parasitic sea lice have raised the question of transfer from farmed to wild sources. The study of distribution and dispersal of sea lice has thus become more important over the last years and key institutes fr om several countries are currently doing research in this field. Through creating meeting places and updating all the proposed members in the interdisciplinary methods and surveys already done by the parties in the different geographical areas, we will dr aft both national projects and an international project to refine the methods in use, do comparative studies, and exchange results in the field of sea lice biology and dispersal. The preliminary title for main project to be established: Comparative studie s of sea lice dispersal in different geographical areas (Canada, Scotland and Norway)
