Previous results from the group have resulted in the first commercial all-plastics solar collectors. This success has been an inspiration behind the proposed new IEA-SHCP Task "Polymeric Materials for Solar Thermal Applications", now approved by the ExCo.
The aim of the present project is participation in this taskforce, including filling the function as subtask leader.
The scientific objective of the task is to remove the barriers that hamper a full penetration of polymer materials for solar thermal com ponents. Polymers offer possibilities for considerable cost reductions, and consequently less dependency on subsidies. The main obstacle is the limited durability of engineering plastics at elevated temperatures.
