The impact of leadership cooperation on organizational performance

Awarded: NOK 0.14 mill.

The project takes as its point of departure three general observations from the Norwegian cultural and organizational context : 1) management collaboration is a dominant norm; 2) leadership cooperation beneficial for organizational performance 3) Norweg ian leaders are increasingly operating in international, cultural contexts where cooperation is less valued than in the Norwegian context. Thus, leadership cooperation as a norm might be under pressures, and we might see a development in which leaders d ecrease in seeking to make cooperative relationships the norm in their organizations. However, if leadership cooperation has an impact on organizational performance, decrease in cooperative relationships are not beneficial. The purpose of the research pro ject is to explore and test the relationship between leadership cooperation and organizational performance. From this view, the project addresses the question: To what extent is the relationship between leadership cooperation and organizational performanc e is cultural dependent? The data for approaching the research question will be frm a comparative study of Norwegian and American knowledge firms.
