The project is a collaboration between Lyse Tele, the Italian company Telsey and the University of Stavanger. The main goal of the consortium is, as a pioneer in the market, to build a business infrastructure using an innovative autonomic computing middle ware platform for easy installation, configuration and updating of IP-based services in the home environment. Self-configuring, self-adapting, self-healing (in case of failures) and self-testing will be the key features of this platform, in order to provi de a scaleable, dependable, and trusted services to the home users. This system will enrich seamless user experience and provide ubiquitous home services. The research will be an interaction between issues in design of protocols and middleware platform a nd issues in secure and dependable communications between embedded wireless units. We will identify the market forces that drive its future growth in the home automation and control networks. The R&D tasks will be grouped into 3 work packages (WPs). WP1 f ocuses on the integration of wireless communications in the home environment resulting in IP traffic to operators; WP2 provides a common middleware Service Delivery Platform (SDP) with autonomic communication facilities on the operator side; and WP3 build s both independent and integrated services based on the IP traffic and the operator's SDP. To realize these services on our architecture, the following key components are identified and need to be developed: - Wireless networking and TCP/IP protocol suite : WP1 - Platform and operating system for sensor and actuator nodes: WP1 - Autonomic communication middleware platform for integrated IP-based home services using high-bandwidth fiber/DSL links to home users: WP2 - Applications for each service: WP3 - Ser vice manager: WP3 Two Ph.D. candidates will be financed by the project. The project will persuade Telsey (Italy) to establish a R&D branch in Norway. We have ambition to expand to a EU FP7 initiative.
