China - bilateral cooperation within biogas from sewage sludge for renewable energy production

A concrete project plan is currently under development for establishment of a project with the working title "Biogas from sewage sludge for renewable energy production in China". The main objective of the main project is to increase production and applica tion of renewable energy from waste in China through development of centralized biogas production technology from sewage sludge. Through this, the project will contribute to greenhouse gas reduction and poverty alleviation in less developed area of China. Objectives of the project: i. To establish cooperation within the field of biogas from sewage sludge for renewable energy production between Tsinghua and NIVA. ii. To arrange a workshop with the aim of presenting and exchanging ideas between Tsinghua a nd NIVA regarding biogas from sewage sludge for renewable energy production. iii. Present project ideas to relevant official bodies (Chinese Ministry of Environment, Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Norwegian Embassy). iv. To submit a proposal based on the workshop to the appropriate financing mechanism for China/Norway co-operation within the specified field. The proposal will be developed in collaboration between NIVA and Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. T he proposal is planned submitted to the Norwegian Embassy through the Chinese Ministry of Environment, Chinese Ministry of Commerce. Other funding sources may also be sought, i.e. the Norwegian Research Council and the EU FP7. The project will be implem ented through the following main activities: 1. Workshop in Beijing 2. Visit from Tsinghua to NIVA for preparation of a detailed project proposal with defined outputs and activities 3. Submssion of a comprehensive application in accordance with required formats for full financial support
