Workshop on Dynamics of Cell Signal Systems (cofunded with FEBS)

Awarded: NOK 0.15 mill.

There is a need for European and international scientists in the area of cell signaling to get together and bring attention to new subjects such as spatiotemporal organization and modeling of signaling. Furthermore, European scientists should get togethe r for networking to strengthen and increase their competitiveness. To our knowledge there is no similar workshop with this particular focus planned in Europe in the next 18 months. The workshop is planned organized over 3 full days from Thursday afterno on (25 September) to Sunday lunch (28 September) at the Norwegian Medical Association's venue site Soria Moria Hotel in Oslo with excellent conference facilities. There will be 2-4 daily sessions with 2-3 invited speakers and if possible also 2-3 shorter talks of 10-15 minutes selected from registered abstracts. Total, approx. 30 lectures (dependent on financing) and approx.10 short talks, in addition to poster sessions. All the registered participants will have the opportunity to submit abstracts and pre sent posters. Since this workshop is organized as a compacted meeting where all the participants live in the same hotel as the conference facilities are localized in, outside the University campus and city center positioned on top of the hill behind Oslo , the environment facilitates informal interactions and possibility to establish new collaborations etc. All submitted abstracts will be printed in a separate abstract book. The applicant has experience from organizing 10 European/international workshops and conferences on cell signalling and functional genomics topics sponsored by FEBS, EMBO, ESF, Nobel foundation, Novo, ASBMB. A previous FEBS / EMBO workshop organized in 2006 was significantly oversubscribed. We expect that the present meeting which has attracted FEBS funding will draw similar attention. We will also seek ESF funding. Both FEBS and ESF expect meetings to rotate between member states and anticipate national cofunding as requested here.
