PETROMAKS2-Stort program petroleum

MaxWells - Wells for Maximum Value Creation

Awarded: NOK 12.5 mill.

Primary objective of project: To advance the state of the art in decision support methodology and closed loop control to meet current and future challenges of constructing smart well systems for the Norwegian oil and gas industry, taking into full conside ration the new environment established by readily available real-time field measurements, advanced software tools, new work processes and organizational structures, and virtual, distributed and mobile work places. Secondary objectives of project: i) E stablishment and consolidation of a world-class international team of academic and industrial researchers; ii) Methodologies and related support tools up to proof-of-concept level for planning, construction and management of smart well systems; ii) Educat ion and training of 3 PhD students and several master students to conduct research on a broad array of interdisciplinary topics covering reservoir technology, production technology, drilling and well technology, control theory and decision theory. Resear ch tasks: -Develop a methodology that quantifies and maximizes the value of real-time measurements while drilling -Capitalize on efficient updating of the earth model using data measured while drilling to design decision support tools for revising well construction plans and risk assessment. -Develop a methodology for automated co-ordinated control of drilling machinery, pump rates, chokes and drilling fluid properties. -Proof-of-concept of various methodologies by application to field based cases and real time data streams
