Robust Envelope Construction Details for Buildings of the 21. Century

Awarded: NOK 12.5 mill.

Buildings of the 21. century should be well-insulated (energy efficient), have a good indoor climate, use materials in an efficient way (minimize material use and ecological loadings), and should be built in order to minimize the number of building defect s. Today, this is not necessarily the case. New building requirements (from users and governments) and new materials and solutions also challenge the traditional building technology. Thus, new methods and solutions are needed in order to ensure robust env elope construction details. The main objective of this project is to develop knowledge and methods for promoting the use of robust construction details and solutions, and the use of effective insulation materials in well-insulated buildings. Materials a nd solutions should have a high resistance against failure (e.g. against moisture problems) and have a high probability of being constructed according to specifications. The project will be organized in three different Work Packages (WP): Efficient Buildi ng Insulation Solutions (WP1), Detailed Studies of Construction Details (WP2) and Classification of Solutions (WP3). In all WP's there will be a focus on promotion of solutions and methods that can reduce the number of building defects in well-insulated b uildings. The project will be performed with close cooperation between SINTEF Building and Infrastructure, NTNU, and eleven industry partners .
