ENERGIX-Stort program energi

Electricity Demand Knowledge

Awarded: NOK 4.4 mill.

There is an increasing focus on challenges related to climate-changes and security of energy supply. EU has specified a binding target for 2020 to reduce the EU global primary energy use by 20 %, compared to a normal growth. Energy efficiency in energy co nversion, supply and end-use is the short cut to a strengthened energy balance, but knowledge about the demand is necessary to understand how to affect it. Energi21 emphasises the importance concerning increased knowledge of the energy demand to realise t he potential for energy efficiency for different customer types. A large amount of data is needed to increase the knowledge concerning electricity demand. In Norway a full scale installation of AMR technology should be performed within 2013. It is recomme nded that the technology is prepared for hourly metering. Structuring these data will make them available in future research tasks. The project will contribute to increased knowledge both concerning the total electricity demand for different customer grou ps (households/offices) and for different end-uses. Historical metered data for total and end-use demand will be used, and new metered data will be achieved. A mathematical and statistical methodology for calculating the end-use demand based on metered da ta of the total electricity demand (Top-down) and for calculating the total electricity demand based on metered data for end-uses (Bottom-up), will be established. Metered data will be used to verify the methodologies. A database prototype for research pu rposes will be established. This database will contain metered data of total demand and end-use demand. Data in the database will be accessible trough a defined interface. The data will not be traceable to the specific customer/end-use. To validate the d atabase and the methodologies developed, two cases will be performed; a historical case focusing on how different policies affect the electricity demand and a case for forecasting demand.
