Emissions from light duty vehicles (LDVs) are one of the most rapidly increasing GHG emission categories. Curbing this trend is increasingly challenging as economies in transition and developing countries are expected to increase their per capita use of L DV?s. Up to a few years ago there have been relatively low efforts in developing electric and hybrid electric vehicles. This situation is, however, changing due to the rapid development of battery technology and increased environmental awareness.ountries are expected to increase their per capita use of LDV?s. The main objectives of the project are to analyse the consequences for the environment and the power sector of substituting a substantial part (30 percent) of fossil energy used in road transport wi th electric energy in Norway in 2020, and to form a strategy for road transport electrification. The project will form a strategy and build up a structured concept beyond state of the art regarding road transport electrification in Norway. The project wi ll show consequences and possibilities that may influence operation, investments decisions and strategic development in energy disposal. Important activities include User preferences and User Strategies, Power System Consequences and Market Development, E nvironmental Impacts and Market strategies and concepts. A concept containing the cohesion from investing in environmental sound technology, to user preferences of car users and system arrangements will be developed in this project. Using the competence regarding understanding environmental aspects and climate impact going from fuel to clean electricity, new battery technology, customer behaviour and consequences for the electricity industry will all together create important knowledge for a more enviro nmental friendly and cleaner society. The project results are foreseen to be especially valuable for electric car manufacturers, renewable power producers and grid owners.
