IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation 2009

Awarded: NOK 0.25 mill.

The annual IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation is one of the leading events in the area of evolutionary computation. The conference may thus be regarded as a computing science/engineering conference but has application areas in many other fields inc luding biology, finance, physics, neuroscience and electronics. The 2009 conference was initated from a joint bid from NTNU and the University of York. NTNU are thus, not only hosting the conference, but also playing a leading technical role with Assoc. Prof. Pauline Haddow as Program Chair. The organising committee is itself an international cooperation with members from UK, Korea, Israel, USA, Mexico and Singapore as well as Norway. Approximately 700 delegates are expected from across the world. Prev ious conferences have attracted submissions from over 60 countries providing a basis for a highly international conference. A unique feature of the conference is the introduction of a schooling offer for delegate's children. This is a joint venture betwe en NTNU and the Trondheim International School (THIS) initiated as a support for enabling more woman to attend the conference. The offer is, however, not restricted to female delegates. More information is available in the Project Description. Much effor t is being put into finding strong keynote speakers and a culturally rich social program so as to encourage delegates too attend and enjoy the conference. The conference has full IEEE approval.
