The Shipping KPI Phase 2 project will continue the work to enhance excellence in ship operation by setting standards for Objective and Unambiguous Performance Measurement in ship operation. The KPI standard will be validated and elaborated through externa l stakeholder involvement looking more closely into areas like corporate social responsibility and environmental performance to reflect a more holistic performance profile of a shipping company. Further, the project will develop prototype tools used for v alidation of the model as well as establishing a benchmark for the industry. It is also the aim of the project to validate the KPI model and through extensive external stakeholder involvement secure the acceptance of the Shipping Performance Indexes. We will: - Develop and facilitate the process for adoption of the principles of the Shipping Performance Indexes with the external stakeholders. - Through data capture from major shipping companies and by theoretical studies validate the KPI model and its s ensitivity and ability to express performance. - Develop a prototype process and tool for benchmarking of the industry. Performance measurements and comparison will help a company identify its strengths and weaknesses; awareness of strengths is beneficia l for marketing and external communication and awareness of weaknesses is beneficial for internal improvements. Shipping KPI phase 2 with its focus on Shipping Indexes for external communication will hence contribute to improved environmental, safety and efficiency performance; in other words improve the competitiveness of the shipping companies.
