Complex Operations Control

Awarded: NOK 9.7 mill.

COP-CON will develop and test optimal Automation, Control and Supervisory modules for Complex Well Construction Operations. These modules can easily be coupled to infrastructure in eControl and eDrilling and similar integrated systems. The modules will u tilize data transmitted through wired drillpipe when available. We will focus on the following areas: 1. Managed Pressure Drilling. The goal of this activity is to develop the first version of a more efficient and robust MPD control system for fixed an d floating platforms starting from the technology and experience developed on MPD operations on Gullfaks and Kvitebjørn from 2004 to 2007 and thereafter. 2. Well Control. Automated influx estimation and kick control will be developed. 3. Complex Drilli ng Module. Supervision and decision support modules for TTRD and Casing Drilling will be developed. 4. Cementing. A module for supervision of cementing operations will be established, based on the flow model. The flow model has already been used with s uccess on complex MPD cementing operations. 5. Casing running. A casing Running Monitor will be developed. The main purpose of this module is to supervise the running of casing, but the module will also be applicable in planning casing running operatio ns. 6. Jarring and Fishing. A Jarring and Fishing Module will be developed. This software will assist in planning, executing and supervising jarring and fishing operations. The emphasis should be on execution with some support on supervision. 7. Well I nterventions. A Module for Well Intervention Operations will be developed by extending and adapting Integrated Drilling Simulator models to snubbing, coiled tubing and wireline operations. The Module is intended both for planning and real-time monitoring . 8. Completions. A Completion Operations Monitor will be developed. The main purpose of this module is to supervise completion operatios, but it will will also be applicable in planning.
