In this project, we will try to develop different microgel systems for enhanced oil recovery applications. Microgels have several advantages compared to the polymer systems currently used for EOR applications. They are more tolerant to high temperatures a nd salinity, and less prone to degradation at the hash conditions they are exposed to in the oil wells. They can both be used as permeability modifiers for water shutoff and as viscosity enhancers for polymer flooding. They can be tailor-made for each oil -field by varying the cross-linking density and the particle size. It is an important aim in this project to produce environmentally friendly microgels that can be used in the oil fields without any adverse effects to the environment.
