Sino-Norwegian Social Policy Forum

Activities for which funding is sought: We are at this occasion seeking funding to support the organisation of two workshops, one to be held in Norway in November-December 2009, and one in China in April-May 2010. The main and most important activity of this Network cooperation has been the annual Sino-Norwegian Social Policy Forum, organised by CIRD and NIBR and held in Haikou, Hainan China in November-December in the years 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The main focus of these conferences has been on China 's economic and social reform and development. CIRD and NIBR have received financial support from the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing to organize these conferences. To prepare these events, a series of related activities have been organized as follows: 4.1 Q uestionnaire survey of policy experts of the network to collect their evaluations of welfare and living conditions of rural areas in general or of particular regions in particular. 4.2 Questionnaire survey of grassroots cadres at provincial /municipal/cou nty levels to collect their judgments of welfare and living conditions of rural areas in general or of particular regions in particular. 4.3 Urban and rural household interviews to understand research target groups' own views of their welfare and living conditions. 4.4 Policy consulting workshops on the design and organization of the most important annual event: The international forum on China's economic and social reform and development. 4.5 Writing of policy recommendations on the basis of all the res earch activities and the results of the international forum. All the survey analytical reports, household interview reports, summaries of the policy consulting workshops and the international forum as well as the policy recommendations have been submitt ed to the Chinese government and publicized by the most influential Chinese media (including TV, newspapers and websites), which have been closely following the research activities of CIRD for many years.
