Annual and semi-annual sea level variations in the Nordic seas

Awarded: NOK 21,999

The project focuses on the annual and semi-annual sea level variations in the Nordic Seas. The analysis is based on information about the variability of sea level from tide-gauges and satellite altimetry data in the Norwegian, Greenland and Barents Seas. For separation and analysis of annual and semi-annual fluctuations in the sea level we will apply modern updates of harmonic, spectral and wavelet analysis. The new techniques and approaches for interpretation of satellite data will be implementing In the project. For studying the mechanisms of the generation of annual and semi-annual sea level variations, will be conducted numerical experiments on the hydrodynamic model. Will be create a conceptual model that describes the main features of the formation of the variability in sea level, taking into account only highlighted the factors that allow a better understanding of the contribution of various components in the overall dynamics of water. As a result of numerical experiments and analysis of observatio ns will be discovered the major factors that shape the annual and semi-annual variations of the Nordic Seas.
