Attentive glimpse as retrieval associate: Components of objects' shape property-shape cue and recognition proficiency

Awarded: NOK 2.8 mill.

-

This project is designed to address the issue of which components of objects' shape property-shape cue produce most proficient shape, thus object recognition in (1) vision, and (2) touch. Indeed; which components of objects' shape property-shape cue are f amiliar when changing over from vision to touch? In fact, designed to provide proposals on whether and how precursors aimed at pre-cuing, thereby rehabilitation programmes for newly blinded individuals are improved by certain components of objects' shape property-shape cue. The project contains six experiments divided into visual and tactual sub-exp., i.e., to avoid that one sense modality influences on the other: Exp. 1-3 investigates proficiency in recognising, by orally naming, picture card-figures. Bu t, as incorrect recognition may derive from, oral, naming failures - a failure in accessing categorical information - and not from recognition failures, Exp. 4-6 investigates proficiency in recognising, by pointing out, figures at odds from a figure-set. This project would obtain added knowledge on how rehabilitation programmes for newly blinded individuals are tailored to every one individual - tailored when it comes to whether, which, and how precursors aimed at pre-cuing are administered: The project w ould obtain added knowledge on how several precursors aimed at pre-cuing may supplement each other. The project would obtain added knowledge on how components of objects' shape property-shape cue are kept familiar to newly blinded individuals, while sense modality is gradually changed over from vision to touch. Plus; the project would obtain added knowledge on how precursors aimed at pre-cuing and aids for the visually impaired may supplement each other. The project may contribute to (1) enhancing the int erest for and research within the field of rehabilitation, and (2) bring about developing of material utilised in precursors aimed at pre-cuing, thereby rehabilitation programmes for newly blinded individuals.
