Awarded: NOK 4.7 mill.

-

This collaborative project uses party theories to investigate the degree to which the Palestinian Hamas has institutionalized as a political party. The project aims to identify the strategic aims and measure the ideological rigidity of Hamas, account for Hamas's institutionalization, and map out its organizational structure. The project also aims to expand the range of Eurocentric party theories by analysing a party in a democratizing regime in the developing world. The project is based at the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI), and c arried out in collaboration with the Palestinian Institute for the Study of Democracy (Muwatin). The project is led by Dr Are Knudsen (CMI) and include Dr Basem Ezbidi (Muwatin) together with and a PhD-candidate. The project period is four years (2010-201 3) with a total budget of NOK 4.7 mill.
