National Centre for Pilot Testing of Hydrogen Technologies

Awarded: NOK 2.0 mill.

This pre-project is preparing for a large-scale research infrastructure (RI) for hydrogen technologies. Initially, the initiative is supported by the two largest R&D institutions in the field, NTNU and SINTEF, but the ultimate goal is to engage and involv e all major national stakeholders, both from academia and industry. The need for such a RI is pinpointed in several strategic documents, from the National Hydrogen Council as well as reflected in the involved R&D partners' strategic priorities. The pre- project has a duration of 14 months and is coordinated by SINTEF. Three national stakeholder workshops will facilitate robust decision making and concensus building with respect to organization, localization and host institution for the large scale RI. Phase I of the pre-project will assess the need for such an RI, as well as reveal the national stakeholders' commitment to involve in a national initiative. Depending on the findings, the project is either terminated or continued into Phase II, in which d etailed plans for the RI, cooperation schemes, cost-shareing models etc will be developed. The project commence November 2009 and will be finalized December 2010, with a total budget of 2 million NOK.
