Advanced environmental design optimalisation & control

Awarded: NOK 15.0 mill.

Project Number:

200838

Project Period:

2010 - 2012

Location:

Partner countries:

The program will demonstrate technologies within simulation and control technologies that will give substantial better vessel efficiency, reduced emissions and increased safety. This is not available in the market today. A complete understanding of the use of energy during the ship design phase under different operational scenarios is necessary for optimizing the design for minimum fuel consumption and maximum safety of operations. The learning about how to produce energy, distribute energy and use the energy in open water in a vessel is not an easy task to perform and document with the present way of operation of a vessel. There is no complete regulation systems present that take into account all parameters necessary to perform the best operation. It is unreasonable to believe that an operator can perform these kind of optimalisations for complex vessels with a variety of operations. The results from the project will be used as a business tool and a design tool and will be offered to the market as an on-board system regulating and monitoring the vessel operations in the most efficient way. The project results will increase competence and know-how and be important for local innovative environmental value creation.
