Measurements of Abscisic acid (ABA) and ABA-metabolites in plants developed under elevated temperatures and air humidity fluctuations

Awarded: NOK 75,000

The project is an integrated part of the PhD program for PhD student Louise Elisabeth Arve. The PhD student will be hosted by Dr. Suzanne R. Abrams at NRC Plant Biotechnology Institute, connected to University of Saskachewan in Canada. The PhD student wil l get training in plant hormone profiling at NCR and measure abscisic acids (ABA) and ABA metabolites in plants. The measurements will be carried out on plant material mainly brought from Norway. The plant hormone ABA is the major player in mediating the adaptation of the plant to abiotic stress as well as in stomata closure. Thus, measurements of ABA and ABA metabolites of plants grown under elevated temperatures and air humidity fluctuations will be examined and related to stomata function and stress to lerance. Understanding the response to changes in temperature and humidity is essential for the understanding of these responses of plants in production systems as well as in natural ecosystems.
