Conflict Dynamics and International Security

This project will develop a system for mapping international conflict. Working with Virtual Research Associates (www.vranet.com), we currently construct and distribute to the international research community a set of daily conflict measures that are used to map conflict globally (1990-present). Working with the Centre for the Study of Civil War at PRIO, which is developing parallel tools for mapping armed conflicts, we will develop a book explaining how automated event coding works, the quality of our da ta, trends in civil conflict, how to distinguish destructive and constructive conflicts, and how to access our data system. This project will strengthen collaboration between academic and policy researchers and create new tools for understanding civil an d international conflict
