During the last decade, information and communication technology (ICT) has become one of the most important drivers of change in all sectors of society. Globally, an increased number of people are engaged in different kinds of 3D web solutions and mixed r ealities. However, in schools and museums, the potential of ICT have not been utilized as fully as might have been expected. A pedagogical take is needed to constitute a foundation for 3D web solutions as one central component in a mixed reality set up wi th structures that can support physical as well as digital artifacts, and students, teachers, and museum curators in activities that lead to productive learning and instruction across sites. Mixed Reality Interactions across Contexts of Learning (MIRACL E) will deliver models of learning spaces where 3D web solutions, as one central component in a mixed reality set up, can craft a learning experience that seamlessly ties together different settings: the school, the web and the museum. To do this we will design an energy resource mission that makes different activities across technologies and contexts of learning relevant throughout the students learning trajectories. We will link together the physical, the tangible, the perceptible, the abstract, and the virtual to an abundant learning activity. A cross-disciplinary research team comprising Norwegian Science and Technology Museum, teachers, computer scientists, architects and learning scientists, will create new interfaces for making learning spaces that facilitate fun, personalized and embodied experiences of scientific knowledge which is normally experienced as complex and difficult. The energy resource mission will be tested using a three-step procedure. The two first steps will primarily feed back into system design of the mission, while the third step will contribute to our knowledge about what characterizes learning and instruction when this kind of mission is used for an educational purpose.
