Institut Mittag-Leffler, IML, is a Nordic centre for research in mathematical sciences. The annual research programs are usually attended by many Nordic researchers, and it provides ideal conditions for younger Nordic mathematicians to meet and establish contacts with world leading researchers. It also provides a unique opportunity to invite world leading scientists to create top level research environments. The institute runs two long research programmes of 3.5 months each including several workshops and seminars and approximately ten one-week conferences. The research programmes conducted at IML offer Nordic mathematicians an opportunity to spend a period of time at the institute doing research in optimal conditions, and in the company of, and often in direct collaboration with, internationally leading scientists in their respective fields. The postdoctoral training of young mathematicians within the programs and conferences is an important activity for the institute. For an overview of previous and future programs, please visit our homepage: http://www.mittag-leffler.se/ From 2011 to 2018, more than 60 Norwegian scientists from Norwegian universities have participated either in programmes or conferences at Institut Mittag-Leffler. Four scientists - Helge Holden (NTNU), Peter Lindquist (NTNU), Aslak Bakke Buan (NTNU) and Alexander Vasiliev (Univ. of Bergen) were scientific organizers of their respective programmes supported by this project during the period of this project. Several research papers were submitted to the IML preprint series and eventually publishes in excellent mathematical journals where the authors express their gratitude to the programmes at IML. The international standing of Institut Mittag-Leffler was manifested in March 16-20, 2016, when it celebrated 100 years by organising the 27th Nordic Congress of Mathematicians. There were many prominent mathematicians from all over the world present during the celebrations of which over 40 were Norwegian mathematicians. These Norwegian mathematicians were important for the implementation of the congress. The attraction and success of the congress was an international recognition of the institute as one of the most important mathematical centres worldwide owing to financial support from this project. In 2019, Institut Mittag-Leffler will continue running programs, workshops, seminars and conferences with participants from all over the world, including Norway. The activities and future of the institute is a result of the successful programs and conferences funded by this project attracting prominent mathematicians from all over the world and encouraging young post-doctor to pursue research on a high scientific level.

Institut Mittag-Leffler, IML, is a Nordic center for research in the mathematical sciences. Since many years the institute enjoys economic support from all Nordic countries. Mostly from Sweden, as is natural given its geographical location, but also from Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. The research programs conducted at IML offer Nordic mathematicians the opportunity to spend a period of time (minimum one month) at the Institute doing research under optimal circumstances, in the company of, and of ten in direct collaboration with, the internationally leading scientists in their respective fields. The postdoctoral training of young Nordic mathematicians is an important goal for the Institute. We want to be able to offer 10 postdoctoral fellowships o n good terms, in addition to circa 19 senior research fellowships. The project for which we seek support is the funding of 2 senior research fellowships and 2 postdoctoral fellowships. Institut Mittag-Leffler has a very active participation from Norwe gian mathematicians. The requested funding will go to cover Norwegian participation at roughly the present level. The Institute currently enjoys the support of RCN with 300.000 NOK/year during 2009-2013 (project number 103797/V30). There have been discus sions to increase the contributions to IML from all Nordic countries, most recently at the NOS-N meeting May 6 in Helsinki. The current application should be seen in that light and as being part of that effort.
