Onboard VOC, Cargo and Energy Recovery System

Awarded: NOK 0.15 mill.

Hamworthy Gas Systems has devised and applied for patents for a system whose aim is to reduce and recover VOC emissions in conjunction with loading and transport of partially volatile cargo by tanker vessels. The system consists of several components, b oth active and passive giving the ability to: a) reduce the amount of VOC generated by flashing during loading b) recover the hydrocarbons in the VOC back into the cargo c) utilise recovered hydrocarbons as a source of energy d) prevent emission of any VO C and H2S emissions (i.e. 100% reduction in emissions) This configuration of the system is flexible, allowing ship owners themselves to determine the targeted recovery mode and degree of recovery. The system will thus have advantages over other available technology in terms of economic, environmental and health and safety performance. The system will also lend itself to retrofit to existing cargo carriers Improvements to system availability and reduced operational complexity will be reflected in the imp roved economic performance.
