Overført restbevilgning fra prosjekt 176813/S10 "DeStore - Decentralized Storage of Multimodal User Data"

Awarded: NOK 0.26 mill.

Prosjektet er siste delfinansiering av et doktorgradsstipend opprinnelig tilknyttet Fronters DeStore prosjekt. A P2P storage and processing network. In this project I will work on a Peer-to-Peer storage and processing network based on DeStore. I will lo ok at how the features of DeStore can be exploited to distribute and process tasks. The project will be about a dynamic plug in based architecture which allows implicit and explicit processing of data stored in the system. The system should be self-optimi zing and it should be possible to be extended with new processing modules during execution. In heterogeneous networks you have the possibility to use the nodes to what they are good at. For instance, a node with a slow CPU should not get heavy computatio n tasks. These properties should be utilized to best determine which nodes to use when distributing a task or replicating data. In an unstable Peer-to-Peer environment, where nodes frequently join and leave, this can be hard to achieve. Protocols are need ed to maintain an updated list of the properties of all the nodes in addition to their load. Peer-to-Peer networks do not move data to a single node very fast. To keep the data the transmission low, I want to do computation close to, or at the same place where the data is stored. Different load balancing techniques will be looked at to achieve this. The storage and processing network will be a platform on which different applications can be implemented. To demonstrate the use of the platform, I will prim arily look on image indexing.
