China: PEM durability - components and systems, Chinese-Norwegian bilateral cooperation in hydrogen technology

Awarded: NOK 0.38 mill.

The main objective of this proposal is to establish a close collaboration between leading Chinese and Norwegian research institutions and industry within the field of hydrogen technology. Specifically, in this bilateral project, we aim to explore the pote ntial of bilateral research cooperation, initially focussing on durability which is, in addition to cost the key obstacle to commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) technologies, both for PEM fuel cells and PEM electrolysers. This bilatera l project shall foster a long-term relationship and evolve to a collaboration in a broader range of technological areas within hydrogen technology, including industrial partners. The main objective will be obtained by pursuing the following sub-goals: - Take advantage of and build on the existing connections between some partners -Involve industrial partners to identifying the critical needs for technical improvement to aid commercialisation of relevant PEM products -Share experiences, procedures, and pr otocols to increase the common understanding -Identify strong-points of each institution, and establish a strategy for how cooperation can provide added value to ongoing research at each institution -Share our network and arrange an international workhop -Identify adequate and available sources of financial support for common projects Planned activities: 1.Exchange of experience, networking and sharing best practice 2.Norwegian excursion to Chinese hydrogen organisations 3.Researcher exchange DICP-SIN TEF/NTNU 4.International workshop on PEM durability - components and systems in Trondheim, 5.Further cooperation activities
