Project Period:

2011 - 2011

Subject Fields:

John McDowell's Kantian-inspired, non-reductive account of the place of mind in nature has generated an intense debate and come under sever scrutiny from virtually all corners of the philosophical community. The various areas of his multifarious thinking have, however, generally been treated apart. My hypothesis is that much is to be gained from a critical examination of the fundamental role - or so I will argue - the notion of truth, together with his adherence to classical logic, plays in grounding the account he gives of the place of mind in nature. This, I believe, will place us in a better position to asses the nature of one of the past decades most widely discussed accounts of the intentional relation between mind and world.
