Climate Change and Security, International Conference, University of Agder, Kristiansand, 20-21 June 2013

Awarded: NOK 99,999

This project aims at shedding light on the state-of-the-art research on climate change and its human security implications (including climate change-induced resource scarcity, increasing natural hazards risk, migration and sea-level rise). The project bui lds on cooperation between the University of Hamburg, the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO), and the University of Agder. The main objective of this project is to plan for an international conference on climate change and human secur ity to be held at the University of Agder in Norway from 20-22 June 2012. Beyond planning and organising this conference, the Norwegian and German research groups envisage publishing conference papers in form of an edited volume or a special journal issue , and to conduct research on climate change and human security. The outcome of the conference shall inform the upcoming Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that will - for the first time - include a chapter on human security. This chapter will be part of Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability to be finalized in March 2014. Moreover, this conference would be a continuation of a series of international conferences on this topic, previously he ld in Oslo, Hamburg and Trondheim, in 2005, 2009 and 2010, respectively.
