The scope of the study includes the following topics: 1) effects of charge and metal ions on the brightness stability of mechanical pulps. This includes interactions between mechanical pulp and filler clay during storage and processing. 2) variat ion of charge, metal ions and electrical properties of paper with different processing and different furnish components. 3) the electric properties of SC paper and their relevance in printing. The study will mainly be focused on rotogravure printing, but the work will also have relevance for heat set web offset printing. 4) investigation of different strategies to control effects of charge and metal ions in the SC paper production process. This part concentrates on optimising the electric propert ies of SC paper relevant for rotogravure printing.
