Completing a higher education in Norway: What it takes for the individuals and the universities?

Awarded: NOK 0.30 mill.

The pre-project aims to review recent research from Norway, the Nordic countries, Australia and the United States on higher education dropouts and incompletion. These countries have been chosen because they represent two types of social systems, i.e., soc ialist welfare states and capitalist neoliberal states and their higher education systems all face the same problem of incompletion to certain extents. Moreover, in recent few years, the issue of incompletion in higher education in all the chosen countrie s has received political attention as well as academic research urgency. Thus, the similarities and differences between the chosen countries will provide a rich base for comparative analyses in the review. The review will also focus on comprehensive res earch designs and methodological approaches that address the issue of incompletion in higher education, the influential factors at individual and institutional levels and the interactions between them. Thus the pre-project will also function as an inspira tion in designing the project under planning at NOVA.
