Smart System to Support Safer Independent Living and Social Interaction for Elderly at Home

Awarded: NOK 10.2 mill.

The project has actively working with data collection and has conducted four focus-group interviews with healthcare / ( physio , ergo , nurses ) to identify their experiences with technology, the need for training of health personnel and elderly users, mapping groups that may be appropriate to implement videophone as welfare technological solution. There has been further work closely with researchers Stavanger City and Lyse to reveal the type of videophone that will be tested in the elderly as home care. The work applied and obtained approval by NSD. There are several master projects, including one on "Videophone in communication with health professionals : elderly users' experiences " with goal to examine elderly people living their experiences on communicating with videophones as health services, and to investigate whether the use of videophones can contribute to self-care and be considered as a support for elderly users to take care of themselves in daily life. There are several articles published. During 2014, there has been a noticeable trend related to the interest of the welfare technology, both in municipalities and in the health directorate. Lyse has participated in several standardization conferences organized by the Directorate of Health relating to issues such as security packages and security alarms. The project coordinator has also met Health Minister Bent Høie and a delegation from the Ministry of Health Care and both demonstrated welfare technology in practice and provided input for further development in the field. It also comes several major tenders within welfare technological solutions, and Lyse has therefore decided to create a separate unit (3 FTEs) that will work with welfare technology market in Lyse Smart AS. The Safer@home project has during the last year been featured in national television broadcasts and media. On October 30, the project was discussed in Schrødingers Katt both by Gunnar Crawford to demonstrate various smart house solutions, and by our PhD Antorweep Chacravorty on computer security related to sensor data. Earlier in October, Antorweep interviewed also by TV2 News on his smart student housing on campus connected to the project. The magazine Tekniske Ukebladet ( TU.no ) printed recently an interview Antorweep about development of Smart City. In September, 2015, Antorweep Chakravorty defended his PhD. Veslemøy Guise will complete her PhD in 2016 under other funding.

The main objective is to extend and strengthen social networks of healthcare services, by integrating Internet of Things in a smart home with off-site professional service providers across public and private sectors. The deliverable platform should suppor t ICT-assisted decision-making, serve and integrate different kinds of aging-in-place services, such as: - Social interaction via video, forum or other channels to prevent loneliness, - Monitoring services enabling prevention, - Safety services reducing a nxiety and fear, - Overall disease management and support to healthy lifestyles, - Prolonging independent living and for extending active working life. The project involves multi-disciplinary stakeholders at different operational and financial levels an d focus on the following innovations: 1. Integrated platform and value chain: * Open interfaces supporting value chain integration; * Business and operational value chain workflow; * Social services usage patterns that counteract isolation and support so cial inclusion; * Focused user interfaces that meet the cognition of the target group; * Methods for reliability, security and privacy assurance on an integrated platform; * Proof-of-concept integrated realistic test services across value chain. 2. Analy tic engine for assisted decisions: * Set of healthcare specific methods for assisted decision making; * Analytic engine that implements earlier methods. 3. Training and Simulation: *Training programs for elderly and professionals; * Analysis of impacts o f the platform and services. One PhD and one PostDoc are proposed for NFR support. In addition, there is a real-live-twin project, initiated and funded by Altibox, Stavanger and Randaberg, which will provide us a realistic environment for testing and v alidating solutions relevant for the proposed architecture, work-flow models and business models, as well as sharing real-live experience, knowledge and feedbacks.
