The coming senior boom is forcing us to starting thinking in new ways related to health and care services. It has been concluded both on a national and international level that major parts of the future care challenges has to be solved by using more user friendly technology. Within the technology remedy for each resident one important task is to collect blood in order to evaluate the well being for the person. The main task is to collect blood without any discomfort for the resident several times a day or only once a day. The collection of blood should be done in such a way that enough blood is collected for biochemical, protein or molecular analysis. The collection of blood should be done in such a way that a person with dementia would do it automatically when entering one of the rooms of the health department. When the blood is collected the blood will be stored in a liquid that take care of proteins, RNA and DNA at room temperature without any destruction. The collection of blood will typically happen at a very attractive part of the wall and may be integrated as a normal part of an electric switch. The Challenge is to develop an automatic self replacing painless sample collection module based on microneedles.

This project is to develop more user friendly technology to solve the future challenges of our health and care service system accompanied with the coming senior boom. New technology will be used in an innovative way to increase the quality of life. Severa l companies will be organized within the project to make a consortium in order to prepare a complete solution to the system for health and care technology. All the technologies are going to work within the same unit. NorChip AS Company and Institute of Mi cro and Nano Systems Technology (IMST) at Vestfold University College will play major roles in this project in order to bring their POCNAD (Point-of-Care Nucleic Acid Diagnosis) technology into the health room for fast diagnosis of common diseases. The on line monitoring of several kinds blood or anemia related disease like diabetes, vascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease etc. An automatic self operating system will be developed based on the POCNAD technology platform (NorChip AS), sample collection system (NorChip AS), technology developed by the EC project the Self POCNAD and specific markers for detection mRNA included in the regular online monitoring of anemia. This system will be integrated into health room, for preliminary te sting of a selected patient population. Some fruitful outreaches based on this project can be expected, 1)The articles could be published in the international journals and conferences. 2)Some research fruits of this project will be filed as patents. 3)E xperts on biomedical engineering and Micro and Nano-technology will be trained. A PhD will graduate based on this project. 4)The model of the relations between anemia or blood related disease and corresponding biomarkers in the blood. With the above goal s achieved, it will give a constructive contribution to Norwegian companies to enhance their competitiveness in the market of health and car
