Simulator-based Virtual Flow Allocation for Atla, Byggve and Skirne Field Developments

Awarded: NOK 0.51 mill.

This project will develop and demonstrate methods for using a dynamic simulation of wells, flowlines and reception facilities to provide accurate and effective virtual flow metering and well flow allocation for gas-condensate fields. This virtual metering provides a very cost-effective replacement or complement to multiphase meters or wet-gas meters. This improves the economics of developments like Atla. This project addresses the following themes in the DEMO 2000: - Process and subsea technology: Long d istance multiphase transport. - Field development technology: Technology that supports development of marginal fields and/or extends field life. Total and Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies (KOGT) have been working together to validate the LedaFlow dynamic multiphase simulator using the Byggve and Skirne assets. This work has involved linking a K-Spice and LedaFlow model to real-time process data, so that the process models can be validated. This project extends and builds on this work to demonstrate tha t this model, extended to include the Atla field, can be used to provide accurate and timely virtual flow measurements and flow allocation, without the need to expensive multiphase or wet gas flow meters. KOGT has developed methods for using dynamic simu lators for data reconciliation applications - virtual metering and flow allocation. These have proved to be effective and useful in simulation studies, but need to be demonstrated with real field data. These methods are likely to be more accurate and give timelier information than existing applications based on steady-state modelling of the wells and flow lines. This project will demonstrate these methods in the context of a gas tie-in to existing infrastructure. The methods will be further developed so that a steady-state workflow that is consistent and always updated can be used. A set of best practices will also be developed for implementing these systems in brown-field installations.
