European Plate Observatory System (EPOS) (http://epos.bo.ingv.it) is an ESFRI project in its preparatory phase that started in Nov. 2010 (EC.FP7 INFRA-2010-2.2.2, grant Agreement No.262229). Its goal is to build long-term research infrastructure in Solid Earth sciences by integrating existing distributed national infrastructures. The main infrastructures that are thought included in EPOS are at the present time seismological networks, geodetical networks, as well as geological databases and rock physics l aboratories. Norway, represented by the University of Bergen, is a partner in EPOS. Seven Norwegian institutions that work within the scientific disciplines of EPOS have signed a letter of interest in order to form the Norwegian EPOS consortium. These i nstitutions will work to integrate the Norwegian infrastructure together in a multidisciplinary fashion. This infrastructure is mainly the Norwegian National Seismic Network, the geodetic database of the Norwegian Mapping authority and the databases of th e Geological Survey of Norway. The need for e-infrastrucutre to integrate, categorize and distribute the data is also an important element in EPOS. The Norwegian contribution to the European fundation "Observatories and Research Facilities for European S eismology" (ORFEUS) is also included in the present project since ORFEUS has a key role in the EPOS project.
