Art.on.Wires Arts & Science Festival 2012

Awarded: NOK 50,000

Since three years the Art.on.Wires Society is organising an annual arts and science festival which has become a unique meeting point for international professionals from different disciplines. The festival has a broad and intersting spectrum of educationa l activities mixed with artistic content. In 2011, for example, we had invited 42 Norwegian and international artists from 8 European countries who held 15 workshops and arranged 12 live performances. A documentary movie about AOW 2011 is available at htt p://art-on-wires.org/2012/02/aow-documentary/ and a full-page article about the festival has been published in Universitas (http://universitas.no/kultur/56271/kunstverkets-oppfinnelse). The main target groups of our festival are researchers and engineers on one side and creative professionals and artists on the other. The festival is arranged as a one week long event where we create a temporary laboratory in which people can explore, discuss and directly use newly developed media technology and novel for ms of artistic expression. Insofar, our festival servers as a platform for direct dissemination of research to artists as a particularly demanding and innovative user group, and in return provides direct feedback to research and development. This year we have managed to find an ideal location in Oslo's culturally most vibrant and central part, Grünerløkka. The festival will take place from 30. April to 5. May at Ingensteds, Brenneriveien 9 which belongs to Strykejernet Kunstskole. Strykejernet hosts arou nd 100 arts students who will get free access to the festival. In addition we collaborate with the MEDIA Department at Simula Research Laboratory, the FourMS group at University of Oslo, the World Opera group, the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, B EK and other Norwegian arts organisations. We expect to increase the number of participants beyond that of previous years where we already had between 70 and 120 attendees.
