Innovation - a new guide

The purpose of the project is produce a paper that covers the entire area of innovation studies, with particular emphasis on the achievements that have been made, the implications for policy and issues of relevance for the future research and policy agend as that deserve further scrutiny. The intention is to produce a paper that is comprehensive in coverage, well written and accessible. The planned content ( 40-50 pages in total): 1. Introduction 2. Conceptual issues: Basic definitions, typologies and pro blems/challenges relating to these. 3. A brief historical overview : The main developments in innovation research from the 1950s onwards, with particular emphasis on the perspectives, institutions and researchers involved. 4. Innovation - influential p ublications and contributors: An overview of the most central contributions to the knowledge-base on innovation and the authors (research environments) behind these. 5. Main issues in innovation research: This section will discuss the state of the art of innovation research under the following headings: a)The making of innovations, b) Innovation measurement c) Innovation systems, d) Economic impacts of innovation. 6. Innovation, policy and social, economic and environmental challenges: This section focus es on the rationales for innovation policy, the experiences from such policies and the implications arising from social, economic and environmental challenges of great importance in the years ahead. 7. The scope and agenda of innovation studies - directions for the future: Based on the achievements and challenges identified above this section discusses directions for future work in this area. Based on experience there are reasons to believe that there will be a great demand for such a paper world wide and that it will find users in many different settings. The paper will be uploaded for free download through the REPEC system.
